Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hello All,

I am not working for about an year now and I want to apply visiting visa for my parents. I lost my job last year and have been on EI since.

1) what should be in the invitation letter ? I happen to lost my job last year and been on EI and CERB since, because of covid , I have some savings and same with my parents , to show for financial support. They had visited Canada in 2016, they visa expired, as their passport expired and we have to renew it now. With their new passport numbers, they should be able to see their previous travel history and it should be easier ? also, since they only have their new passport, we dont have stampings of their previous travel history, so I wont be able to show a proof of their travel history, including Canada, will that be ok ?

2) Marriage License of my parents ? my parents are retired and live in India, should we get a notarized copy from a lawyer saying they are married ?

3) In proof of travel, its asks for a copy of medical appointment, what should we be submitting here ?

4) Proof of relationship, what do Indians or others commonly produce as proof of relationship ? I have my fathers and mother's name in my passport last page, will that be good ?

Thank you

I would cwrtainly be better if you were working espcially after 1 year of unemployment.

I have time in hand now to do the work, as my parents dont know how to do the application. I had an accident last november is why I am not working, I was initially on EI sickness and moved to CERB. I am thinking mention about my accident and use it as a reason for them to be here to offer support. But if I wish to go ahead with the application, can you assist with the other questions.

Thank you

If you had an accident you shouldn't be on EI or CERB. These require you to actively look for work and you would have jad to fill out a nimerous time information ndicating that you are looking for work. You should have apllied for disability of workmen's compensation if you were injured through work.

Nope, you can apply for EI sickness if you had an accident. And they had asked me all the questions about accident before approving my EI and when EI ran out you are eligible for CERB

ignore him.
You still need the minimum amount of hours to apply for EI
I can understand her getting EI if she had hours to be eligible for EI sickness
But not CERB. She lost her job PRIOR to the pandemic, because of an accident,not because of the pandemic, nor AFTER job losses began caused by the pandemic
I’d be preparing to pay that back when the Government starts running the ROE data from the ESDC, and they will run that data too recoup funds inadvertently paid out
It’s already started
When the O/P started being on EI, the CERB program never existed
Right now EI claims are automatically converting to CERB benefits, regardless of the reason EI started

The Benefit is available to workers:

  • Residing in Canada, who are at least 15 years old;
  • Who have stopped working because of reasons related to COVID-19 or are eligible for Employment Insurance regular or sickness benefits or have exhausted their Employment Insurance regular benefits or Employment Insurance fishing benefits between December 29, 2019 and October 3, 2020;
  • Who had employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their application; and,
  • Who have not quit their job voluntarily.

I copied from the Canada.ca website for CERB qualifications. I exhausted my EI benefits is why they put me on CERB. So, I will not have to pay back anything other than taxes on it. Let me also tell you, they kept adding new criteria to CERB, EI exhaustion was not initially part of it. I have myself wrote to the PMO and my MP to include that, as it is tough for people like me. And my EI sickness benefits were on hold for 2 months and got approved in June, when I applied for it in March, as they were overloaded with EI claims and CERB work. By the time the Service Canada person called me to approve my EI sickness benefits, I was eligible for CERB and it was almost $300/month more than my EI pay outs, the officer told he can cancel my EI application so that i can go on CERB and get paid more, I have been nice enough to have a low pay. So, I don't want to be treated like a thief when in reality I am taking less money when I could have gotten more.

seek professional help please do not just rely on public opinion u must have realised all you are getting is counter questions.

some of them are not something that needs professional help, like invitation letter, marriage license.. let it be my decision whether to go ahead in my jobless situation or not. But others are something i want to take note and keep them ready if and when i have to apply. The previous time I applied for visa for my parents, I was working and I had an invitation letter from my college where I did diploma for my graduation ceremony.

Thank you

1. There is no standard format. Most of the information you mention will be in the documents and aren’t needed in the invitation letter.
2. no need for it to be notarized.
3 if not applicable put n/a
4. yes proof of your parents names in your passport is fine.
