. Since my visa has expired and I need to travel out of the country
, how can I extend my visa within Canada.

Now that you have a valid work permit, you can apply to re-new your TRV. Online applications are usually faster.
You can go to cic.gc.ca or http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend/visa.asp and follow the instructions.
