How to Carry Gold Jewellery to Canada

Hi All

Can any one share his experience / knowledge that how to carry gold jewellery to Canada and should it have purchase invoices with it? What problem can be face its carrying without legal invoices in New Delhi Air Port or in Canada Air Port with Custom or any Department?

It is better to get the jewellery appraised before you import into Canada.

Our experience:
We planned to complete the landing and move permanently later. We listed the jewels ( x number of chains, y number of ear rings, etc) in the list of good to follow and also took a picture of the jewels. We handed it over to the immigration offer during landing. The immigration officer adviced us to get all the jewels appraised before the jewels are imported and made a note in the list of goods to follow mentioning that he has adviced us to get the jewels appraised.
Before we moved to Canada permanently we got our jewels appraised and we did not have any problem importing it. The customs officer saw the photographs and just asked us couple of questions
1. Where are the jewels? We said that they are inside the bag
2. Do we have all the jewels and are they same as in the photograph? We said 'Yes'.
