how often can i travel

hi, i just need to know how often can i fly back and forth while the application is in process? my husband (canadian) and i (german) we booked flights for august, i´ll be staying 2 months and fly back home. he´s gonna stay in canada at my parents in law, and i would like to returne for christmas. do you think this is ok, or do i have to wait till berlin requests my passport? what if they want my passport when i´m in canada?

Sounds like you have applied outland. In that case, there are no limitations on where you can be. You can even be in Canada while you wait for your PR as long as you apply to extend visitor status if you are staying more than 6 months. If Berlin requests your passports while you are in Canada, you can mail it from Canada to Berlin. Then they can mail it back to you and you can land as a PR by going to the US border and returning to Canada from there.

thanx LEON, yes we made the outland thing, cause we are still in germany. i don´t wanna extend my tourist visa.

can i open an bank account even i don´t have my pr?

after 3 years i´ll be able to apply for citizenship, is that right?

do you know or somebody else if i can keep my german citizenship and also have the canadian?

Yes you can easily have a bank account and not be a PR.

TD Canada will even let you open an account on line. When we got here, we used my wifes aunt address, (with no proof) and then changed it when we found somewhere to rent.

I remember a German before complaining that they would have to renounce their German citizenship - some countries allow it (i'm Irish and I can have dual)

They don't easily allow dual citizenship for Germans. My bfs German and he checked into it. You have to submit an application to the German government before you apply and have to prove how losing your German citizenship would be a hardship for you. I think he'll still try it down it the road.

The German law on citizenship mandates that German citizens who voluntarily apply for and accept the Canadian citizenship will automatically lose the German citizenship if they have not been granted a permission to retain the German citizenship prior to becoming Canadian. This "Beibehaltungsgenehmigung" is granted by the competent authority in Germany on an individual basis. To obtain the permission, you must prove that you still have substantial ties to Germany and are in a personal situation in which the obtention of the dual German Canadian citizenship would be beneficial to you and/or avoid individual detriments. Please note that applications have to be submitted to the German Consulate and that proficiency in German is mandatory."

sounds somehow difficult, my parents will still live in germany also my entire family. But i´ll try to optain both.
