So I'm moving from northern Washington to Van. BC. I currently live by myself, so I have a whole apartment worth of things (closets, clothes, bed, table, chairs, couch, tv, dishes, etc.) and since I live so close I'm just driving up.
How much stuff is too much? I'm planing on bringing my furnishings at a later time and just my clothes and personal items initially. Is there a limit on how much stuff I should bring? IE should I sell/get rid of all non-essential things?
If you have experience with this please let me know how it went for you.
Has your Application been approved already, meaning are you a PR now?
If not, I wouldn't bring everything at once, since that can be a red flag for CBSA.
I've seen the form, but I notice there is only a few slots for stuff. Would I have to fill out multiple forms for all my stuff?
Also most of it has little or no retail value, do I still have to specify a value for everything?
I haven't received my COPR yet and I don't plan to move till I do. I'm not bringing everything at once, I'm leaving 80% or so of it behind to bring up later.
My understanding, and I'll be happy to hear other people's actual experience, is that:
-Yes, you use multiple forms if needed
-Yes, everything must have a value. You can do things like "1 Box of clothes, $100" for example
-You should list high-value items on their own, like jewellery
-You must list everything at the time of landing, even it's not with you at that time. Otherwise when you go to import it later, you might be subject to duty and taxes
The only thing of significant value I have is my wedding ring set which I always have on me at all times. Should I declare that even though I'm wearing it?

For all your extra stuff, you want to use the B4A. I have many of these forms filled out and ready to go. I had to inventory a whole condo full of my stuff, my husbands stuff (and junk) and my sons stuff...
As for value, you would put a value of what you might list it for on Craigslist or eBay. I listed all my small kitchen appliances together with a low value. We also have a Vitamix, I listed that separately and applied a $200 value to it.
Bringing 20% later you'll want to check the box in the top right corner that asks if its good to follow. Good luck!!!
