How long does it take to get visitors visa

Submitted visitors visa to the kenyan Visa office in November 2011. Got emails from them asking for more documents (medical documents, documents showing I own land etc). All the requested documents were sent in by January, shortly after my status changed to "pending medical..." and since febuary my visa is just pending, no new updates.

Any one else had an experience like this? How long does it usually take to get a visitor's visa to canada?

Is it weird that they emailed me wanting more documents? Could it be taking so long because I have also lived/studied in the states for a number of years and need police clearance?

Any one have any thoughts??
