How long can you stay out of Canada after receiving PR card?

We recently got our PR cards two weeks ago, but unfortunately my grandmother felt ill back in our home country.We really want to spend time with her, since we are not sure how long she will be around for.We want to go back for about 3-6 months, depending on how fast she get well.But we are afraid of loosing the PR status,since we love Canada.I got a job and was about to start college next January.Whats the maximum time we can stay out of Canada without loosing it?
