I work for a Canadian company - over Christmas I came back to my home country have been working remotely. Now, with the new $2,000 fee and general anxiety of traveling during COVID, I want to pitch the idea of me working from abroad for another few months to my employer. Does anyone know the legalities of this? I am on an open work permit. I signed a contract with the company saying I would be back in the country on March 1st 2021, however it did say it could be extended if needed. I wanted to educate myself on the rules so I can get the most from this situation.

As previously said it is up to the employer but you can’t count the time as working in Canada. The hotel arrangement could be in place for quite a while.
