Hi
Trying to stay with my bf in Canada long enough to apply for Common Law. The border is getting suspicious with me coming back on tourist visas, so I figured studying will make it easier.
Hoping to start as soon as possible. The one school that is clear about when to apply as an international student says 4months if you dont have a study visa yet.
My notes says you need an acceptance letter from the school to get a visa....?
Was hoping to start in January as the processing time for my country (sweden) is only 3 weeks.
Looking to study in Bc or Alberta, if anyone know of any schools having shorter appl times.
Also, whats the minimum time you can study to get the student visa?
Can you do both College and University?
From what I can understand, your application is not ready yet.
So, you can't make it to the January term, you should try for the May term. If you plan on going to alberta, you can check SAIT, Bow valley, NAIT, and the minimum time is 1 year (8 months,2 semesters) , if you try for a diploma/certificate shorter than 6 months then student visa is not required.
Plus, what do you mean both college and university? Do you mean at the same time? or finishing college and then university? If you are talking about going to both at the same time ,then no.
Thanks for you answer!
Meant if you can study at any kind of school with the study visa. I realize now it was a stupid question haha. Pretty sure its even good for high school?

You don't get the study permit first. You get accepted by a school first. The study permit is then issued allowing you to attend that school.
So if you wanted to attend high school, you would first have to find a school in your area that was willing to accept you as a student. Then next you would apply for the study permit. FYI - tuition for public high school for international students is around $14K per year (it's not free like it is for Canadians).

Yeah thats what I though.
Thankfully I am done with high school haha. Do you know around how much it is to attend college for a year? I know its different depending on where and what you study but..
