I am from Bangladesh and a graduate student at York University (I am study permit holder and my wife is in visit visa). My wife is going to give birth our baby in May 2011. Since, our baby will be a Canadian citizen by birth, how can we (me and wife) apply for citizenship under family class sponsorship? please help...Thanks in advance
You will have to apply for permanent residence under one of the normal plans - having a Canadian citizen baby will not allow you to apply under family class. So you can apply through Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience, Investor, etc.
The child can sponsor his or her parents only once he or she is 18 years old.
what canadianwoman stated is correct. however, you might be eligible to work (and later on apply for PR) due to your studies at YU (so check your options e.g. under canadian experience class).
Agreed. Having a Canadian child will not change your status in Canada at all. You must qualify yourselves under CEC or under the PNP in your province. If you are not successful, the Canadian child can sponsor you once he or she is 18 years old, living in Canada and making enough money to support you two as well as other dependent children you may have at that point.
