I have some doubts about this procedure and would greatly appreciate some guidance. Our current sitiutation is that I have a conjugal partner that has obtained a visitor visa, we are looking for a way for him to come here and be able to become common law or a way to sponsor him, excluding the marriage option.
p.s. I am a college student and unable to financially support him. could this mean he could apply for an open work permit?

If he has a visitor visa you are covered for the first 6 months, assuming default duration. Near the end of the 6 month period, apply for a visa extension for another 6 months or more.
oh okay, but then how would he support himself financially, because his current income isn't enough due to the exchange rate in Canada. So, therefore, is there any possibility that during or after the 6 month period completion could he ask for a work permit?

Not an Open Work Permit. There is nothing to stop him looking for a job as a visitor with an employer who is prepared to go down the Closed Work Permit route but he can't start work until he actually receives the WP.
By the way, the phrase "Conjugal Partner" has some very specific connotations when dealing with immigration. Be careful where you use it..
Think you are getting confused with conjugal and same sex partners. If your partner can get a TRV you don't qualify for conjugal. Unfortunately you may have to do long distance for a while.
