Hi all

Im going to study English course at Saskatoon starting from 4th Jan 2016. Visa was approved, and I did apply it with homestay for first term of my study.

I have to pay housing placement one-off fee 275CAD, housing damage deposit fee 675CAD and homestay fee 2050CAD by final payment deadline which is 25th Nov to get accepted homestay. Another reason I wanna pay these is just in case there will be no problem at Canadian airport.

Planning to go Canada on 7th of December and will stay in my sis-in-low's house until 4th of Jan on which my homestay will start.
But if it is convienent to live in sister-in-low's house I will cancel homestay.

my question is if I cancel homestay on 15 of DEC then how much will I be charged?

many thanks
JE

You'll have to ask the company you booked the homestay through or read their policies on cancelations. None of us can answer this question.

Hi
Thanks for your quick reply, I thought the homestay contract is same all over Canada.
Anyway will it be issue at the canadian airport if I will not pay homestay fees before I go canada as I initially applied for student visa with homestay. I mean I will stay sister in lows house instead of staying homestay.

cheers

No - they aren't the same. Companies make their own policies.

got it ,

My Next question is:
when I applied visa Ive chosen homestay. I let my english college know this before I apply visa. But no contract is made yet.
CAN I ignore the home stay completely now and will I stay my sis-in low house? Will it be problem at the canadian airport cos I applied visa with homestay and changed my mind after get visa?
sorry about strange question cos I have lack of canadian knowledge.

cheers all
JE

There shouldn't be any issue at the airport. I assume your studies are six months or less and you will be coming to Canada as a tourist to take your classes. If so, make sure you have a return flight and can show you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your studies while in Canada.

thank you again,

No I applied 9 months courses, that means I will get study permit at the airport. I did buy 2 way ticket.
Also will I need to take all monies(cash or travellers cheques) I will need during my study with me so that to show immigration officer at the airport that I have sufficient funds?
Its not good idea nowadays to having alot cash cos we can get money from home country easily using online banking system or my bank card from ATM while I'm in canada.

what else I need to be aware at the airport?

thanks for your help

Just to be clear, have you already been approved for a study permit (i.e. did you apply in advance)? If not, where are you from (I assume from the US)?

Im from China. I applied for visa for 9 months course and got visa. I was told that its not study permit. When Im going to canada , imigration officer at the canadian airport will assess me again and will give me study permit. I need to show my funds, accomadation address, proof of I will go bak to my country at the end of the course and so on. Thats what I understood. Ofcourse I dont wanna fail at the airport.

Or Am I missing something, or misunderstood of visa and study permit?
Any help would be very helpful for me who is going to canada first time
Many thanks

Yes - that's correct. Your actual study permit will be issued at the airport.
