Home country Passport and RTD

Hi everyone , hope you all doing well
I have a Question that If we get Refugee Travel Document (RTD) after PR which probably gonna be valid for 5 Years , Can we still ask cic for our home country passport to send us back , Or is it illegal to ask for home country Passport back if you already get RTD.

You can ask for your home country passport back - however do not use it to travel and do not renew it.

I am Canadian citizen and had to surrender my national passport when I applied for RTD and I can’t find out how to get my national passport back. Any tips on how to get my national passport back will be highly appreciated
