I am having issues with the dates they ask for on the application. An example is question 2 of the Details of Visit to Canada part. I got an error message when I put the date in saying it must be greater than or equal to todays date.
I am a US citizen here visiting my fiancé in Canada and I need to file an application to extend my stay. I am having problems with it and can't find help. I have to send the application to extend my visit in 30 days before my six month stay is up and that time is coming soon.
Our plan is for me to immigrate here but it seems to be a lengthy process and we don't want to be apart for months at a time. I thought it was strange that you could have the common law status after one year but the longest anyone can stay is 9 months. I want to stay as long as I can so it will look better to immigration. I am wondering if I can extend my stay longer than 3 months?
I thought that someone could visit for six months only and if they wanted to stay longer they needed to file an application but even then they could only extend their stay another 3 months so the total length of time someone would be able to stay is 9 months. But the other day I read someone extended their stay for 18 months?
