My study permit and visa expired while I was outside Canada. I have applied to renew my study permit from outside Canada before it expired but my application is still processing. Is it possible to apply for a tourist visa just so I can go back and attend my classes while my permit processes ?
I don’t think I can apply for a Temporary resident visa as a student because I currently do not have status. But since I applied before the expiry of my permit I believe I can resume studying under the same conditions.

You could apply for a TRV but if approved and you come to Canada, you would enter only as a visitor and would NOT be allowed to study. Implied Status ends when a person leaves Canada. You would need to wait for your study permit to be approved before resuming your studies.
