Help , running out of time

Hello everyone- I am in the process of filling the form to restore my status in Canada and stay longer in Canada with my husband.
Brief story
I have stayed more than 6 months in Canada but I have a temporary resident visa valid till 2017.
So do I have to just pay the restoration fee and fill up the form ?
I read it somewhere there one needs to pay another $100 for the visitor extension fee !
Does it apply in me case ?
Please please please guide me

So as long as you aren't applying for anything but status restoration, just pay the restoration fee.

Clients applying for a restoration must pay the corresponding fees. Any client applying to restore as a visitor will pay only the restoration fee (i.e. $200.00). However, if a client also requires a work and/or a study permit, they must pay processing fees for each permit in addition to the fee for restoration (i.e. $200.00 + permit).

The officer will first evaluate the restoration request and if approved, will process any application for a study and/or work permit.

And if you look on the fees schedule for the IMM 5551, it says "OR" between the extension and restoration of status. So you most definitely only have to pay the restoration fee.

Restoration. If it is successful, they restore it for a length of time, but I'm not sure how long that would be. I assume till the date on her visa, but not 100% sure one that. If no one answers here try on the visitor forum.

Your TRV has nothing to do with your status; it is a stamp on your passport that allows you to board a commercial carrier to travel to Canada. You are no longer in status, so you cannot extend it. You must select Restoration.

Thanks for the reply but what I was trying to ask is - do I have to apply for both and pay for extension of status as well as restoration of status

That is what Canuck was trying to tell you. You are NOT currently IN status, therefore you would not pay for an extension of said status, all you would pay is for the restoration of your previous status.

That's what I said as well . The restoration gives you the status for a length of time, whatever the visa officers decide. I assume it will be for the length of your visa, since it is still valid, but maybe only for another 6 months.

You only pay the resto fee since your visa is valid. Again, you only need to pay the visa fee if you are renewing a visa or permit, but yours is still good.


You need both valid STATUS and a valid VISA. You already have a valid visa.

Pretty much no chance of it being for the length of the TRV. Given the fact that OP has already failed to extend status, 6 months is really the best they should hope for.

A valid TRV is not required to be in Canada.
