Question 17 ask if you had a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner relationship before. First of all how do you indicate that it was common-law? and second where it asks for address, does that mean the persons address now or the address that you both lived at when you were living together. I had this common-law relationship 22 years ago which is a very long time ago. I do not know his exact address now. I just know he lives in Scarborough.
Basically there is no way to indicate whether it was a marriage, common-law or conjugal partner - I guess CIC doesn't care. The dates section at the bottom will help you indicate that, at least, it wasn't a marriage. You're going to fill in the length of the relationship started (i.e. when you started living together and when you stopped), and the date of separation. Put a "N/A" in the section for the date of divorce/death, and that should do it.
I would say the address would be the person's address now - if you don't know it, put "Unknown". You can indicate "Scarborough" as the city and leave it at that. I don't think even CIC is going to expect you to know the whereabouts of someone you had a relationship with over 20 years ago - and they won't try to contact him. They never tried to contact my first husband of 21 years - even though I have children with him.
