I recently applied for extension of my study permit and restoration of my student status. My study permit was expired on August 31, I realized after a week and applied for the extension and the restoration of status on September 7th.
For some reason I had thought my study permit expires at the end of 2015. Nevertheless, I applied online immediately once I found out my study permit has been expired for a week.
One of the required documents is an enrollment/acceptance letter from the university, which I got from the university and uploaded. In the enrollment letter it says I'm a registered full time student as of the date of the letter and for the winter session.
My question is, how will that letter impact my application? after a bit of research today I found out that during the restoration of status one is not supposed to be studying!
In case this damages my application, what can I do to fix the problem?
Any help is much appreciated as panic has set in and I'm extremely stressed bout this, thanks!
A bit of context: I am a PhD student and the circumstances of my initial study permit have not changed.
It's true you can't study during the restoration period. You need to stop your studies immediately and wait for the restoration application to be processed before resuming your studies. If you are working, you will also need to stop working immediately.
I don't think you should have any issues having the restoration and study permit approved. However you may be waiting a few months for an answer.

What about the letter? once I do stop studying, do I/can I amend another letter? otherwise how do I communicate with CIC that I indeed have stopped my studies?
I should add that I'm not taking any courses, only doing research on my thesis. The letter only says that I am registered as a full time student and it does not say anything about courses. I am however registered for my thesis section, not noted in the letter. Does that make any difference?
I'm not sure what does stopping one's studies mean! does that mean I withdraw from school? drop courses? well I'm not taking any! or what? again any help is much much appreciated.
It is a really unfortunate situation and I feel somewhat helpless!
Question remains however, have I paused my studies if I'm not taking any courses but are registered as a student? note that students have to register and pay tuition each term, otherwise they will be put on 'financial hold' which comes with a series of costly consequences!
