Hi Guys,

I have had low academic scores (46.66% in my 10th grade, 61.50% in my 12th grade and 57.32% in my graduation (BBA – Bachelors in Business ). However, I scored decent enough in IELTS i.e. 7.5 (R-8.5; L-8; S-7.5 and W-6.5). Also, I have 4+ years of working experience with HSBC and Thomson Reuters.

Now, can anybody please tell me If I should mention the reasoning behind the low academic scores and how I have planned to overcome them OR should I just focus on my positive sides that is good IELTS score and working experience.

Please guys, I need a strong SOP and make that positive impression.

DO NOT focus on the negatives in you SOP! considering your profile, in fact everyone who has completed bachelors or masters or have work ex, their 10th or 12th scores seem irrelevant, at least I think that way. Now, you have average score in BBA (I scored same in B.com) and good in IELTS, plus you have work ex from good reputed companies. So definitely focus on that... and I think one should not mention his or her scores in SOP but just tell what they learnt from doing a particular program (in your case BBA) . mentioning scores just seem naive and alternatively just say you passed ..... exam with excellence or you couldn't do well, etc and if you insist give a very brief explanation for that but just make sure that the overall theme of your SOP is positive. Make no grammatical mistakes and use active sentences instead of passive and keep it short and crisp. keep the length of Sop to 1-1.5 pages ( around 500 words). Link your past education to your work ex and how your proposed program will help you in furthering your career in India. hope that helps.
