Hello:
I landed in Toronto in Jan 2007 and moving permanently in May 2007. I got my PR card but have not applied for SIN card or Health card. I'm planning to settle down in Toronto area. Do I need to get a intermediate insurance until I get Health card? How long does it take to get the health card.
how does this whole thing work?
Thanks in advance.

There is a 3 month waiting period for OHIP, so you should get private insurance, Blue Cross whatever, to cover the first 3 months.
PMM
Blue Cross wont cover unless you have an OHIP card. You have to get insurance from your home country prior to coming.
try this site: http://www.ibac.ca/Pages/English/Consumers/Default.aspx
you can find a broker to help find the right intermediate insurance
also you can try this company: http://www.coverme.com/
remember, it is v. imp. to take insurance during these 3 months as health care is v. expensive here
