Hi everyone, like I wrote in some other thread, among my list of proof of 1 year cohabitation with my boyfriend (or partner or whatever you are called before becoming CL) I don’t have any health insurance shared or me being beneficiary of his health plan.
In just a few more days we will complete the 1 year cohabitation and then I will leave to apply OUTLAND from Italy for CL sponsorship.
The question is: can I still be added to it before I leave or it is too late now (looks weird and like a last minute proof). Also, it always depends on his health plan rules, it may be not have that one option.

That’s exactly the answer I was hoping for. Thanks again so much! I genuinely thought that by not having a “legal” relationship status I could never be added.

I also answered in your other thread but to clarify, you likely can't. For one thing, extended benefits generally require a person to first have provincial health coverage; benefits are an extension of what is already covered by the governent. Also, I dont know of any insurance plan that grants coverage to "girlfriends/boyfriends". Adding a person generally requires a "life change event", such as getting married or becoming common-law.
I always thought this but it's actually not true. My husband was added when he was a visitor in Canada with no provincial health coverage. Our plan also covers partners such as girlfriends, boyfriends. Ontario, Great West Life. Fintan was able to use it for dental, massage etc while we were waiting for the application to be processed.
My old company is the way you stated, though, so it really depends. Best to just verify with the provider and find out because you never know.
A lot of people without provincial coverage get added because the company HR doesn't fully understand the rules. If you contact the insurance underwriter directly, you will likely find out that they do require it. People have gotten in trouble when they claimed the full amount of something to the insurance company when it is partially covered by the province:
Insurance company: "Why didn't the province pay this portion?"
Person: "I don't have provincial coverage."
Insurance company: "You don't qualify for our coverage, pay back everything you've claimed."
I believe there was a person on the forum a few years ago that had thousands done in dental work and then found out they didn't qualify. Lucky for them, the insurance company didn't find out, so they managed to not have to pay it all back.
Are you sure about the girlfriend/boyfriend thing? No requirement to even be common-law? That would greatly surprise me, as a person could claim a "girlfriend/boyfriend" relationship with anyone and add them to their coverage.
