Hi everyone,
My mother-in-law has got her PR she is going to come to Canada soon and will stay with us. I wonder how she can get a health card (OHIP as we are in Ontario). As for documents, she needs proof of residency I believe. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I should have asked my question more clearly, I know the documents needed, but I am not sure what we can do for her proof of residency as she is going to stay with us, do you have any suggestions? can we prepare a lease agreement saying she pays us a small amount (10 dollars monthly)and will stay in our basement?

Others might warn that any lease agreement can create potential legal and tax complications. Up to you.
I'd look at other things that might be accepted: bank accounts, adding her name to utility accounts, insurance agreements, etc. Perhaps SIN number correspondence?
But read through the instructions. Call or visit to ask in more detail. My experience is that they will accept almost anything that is from an official institution/large corporation/contract.
Also note; they may have changed the residency waiting period - restoring the three month wait - I don't know.
And if they don't find something appropriate right away: no need to freak, my understanding is that OHIP will cover bills from short period before OHIP received (if would have been eligible), you can take a week or three to get the docs (and see a doctor etc in interim if needed, although inshallah won't be necessary).

Is your mother planning on staying in Ontario for over 6 months, the first 5 out of 6 months and making her permanent home in Canada? If not she won’t qualify for OHIP. You both need a valid health card and to be planning on meeting the residency requirements to qualify
or you can be asked to pay back any healthcare you use.
