Having a Closed Work Permit. Can i Travel to canada for Visitor purposes??

I have a closed workpermit of canada which means i can use it for only the company which i work for. I want to visit canada to meet my friend for 2-3 days and not for work related purpose. The only reason i want to try this is ....I want to avoid getting a Canadian visitor visa. So can i Visit canada on closed work permit ???

Yes, you can as far you don't need or you have entry Visa.
If you are from a non-exempt visa country you still needing a Visa, otherwise eTA is enough when flying

Looks weird visiting Canada in a WP.
Did you left/quit the job?

Always tell the true to the officer if he ask about your WP or work.

I returned to Canada after trips 4-6 times with my WP, not problems nor questions

Just to clarify are you currently in Canada? because you have said you are on a close work permit so i presume you are in canada or you are currently outside canada but still have the valid closed work permit and want to return to canada. As long as you have the valid re-entry visa and valid work permit you can use that to re enter canada.


Edit: provided that you still work on that closed work permit. Because when you re enter canada with that work permit officer will phone your employer to verify your employment.

Officer could call employer or not at his discretion, as same he can ask about your job or you travel or nothing at all

If nothing looks wrong the officer most likely won't make any call (specially if you land during no business hours)

I returned to Canada as TFW more than 6 times in 4 years, with no issues nor questions, however it's not guaranteed
