Hey guys, thinking of applying for Citizenship, just want to check I have everything right.

From October 2015 - October 2017 I completed my work experience, I understand this counts as 1 year towards my Citizenship?

I returned as a PR in October 2019, so this October will mark my 1st year as PR, plus my 1 year work experience, so I only need to complete another year before I have my 3 years correct? So in October 2021 I can apply. If I move to Montreal before then, from Vancouver, that shouldn't make any difference to anything should it?

Do I also need to add up every day spent outside Canada, including trips to the States, and then take that off my total days spent here? Also, will my work experience year still count as by the time I apply it will be nearly 5 years since my second year work experience.

This is a bit confusing for me! Any answers help.

Unfortunately you will not be able to apply in October 2021.

Remeber that you can only count time within the previous 5 years. By the time October 2021 rolls around, you will have lost the time spent in Canada from October 2015 to October 2016 since this will be longer than 5 years ago.

Yes - you must add up every day spent outside of Canada including trips to the States. Yes - you must subtract this from the total.

I don't believe you'll qualify for citizenship until sometime around October 2022.

Thanks Nick and Scylla. Roughly, whats the average time it takes to apply and receive your passport?

It only takes 10 days once they've received your application for citizenship?

No - it takes around 12 months for the citizenship application.

Applying for a passport once you are a citizen only takes around 10 days.
