I am wondering how to transfer my money into Canada before landing. I will be landing after a few weeks in Vancouver and I’m not comfortable carrying any huge cash sums on me. A friend recommended to open a Canadian bank account while still in my home country and wire money to it before I land. So you guys recommend this? And is it secure and safe? I’m a bit reluctant since I read very bad reviews on RBC bank. Also do you guys recommend CIBC over RBC?? Thank you

Hi Tokibae, I am also in the same dilemma, as I have also received my PPR. Now, the question coming in my mind is how to take a good amount of money in Canada. As, I am also planning to open a Canadian Bank account in my home country, and transfer the money here itself, and for immediate expense, planning to take 4-5k Cash. But do I have to declare the amount at the airport even if its in bank?
Also, what if I require more money afterwards and my parents wire the money from my Home Country, So is there any tax implications on the money that is wired afterwards?
No. You don't need to declare this money at airport. Though you might want to carry proof of this wire transfer to show that you have sufficient funds for initial settlement.
