Hi, sorry if this info is available elsewhere on the site but I'm new to this and just looking for some advice!
My husband and I are due to fly to Calgary in 8 weeks for him to take up employment; we have the LMIA and work permit however his new employer is now saying he cannot guarantee the job he offered when we arrive due to the economic issues

We are trying to decide whether we should still go as we are already out of pocket quite a lot with shipping costs and flights etc.
Is it possible to work for another company when we arrive with the paperwork we have? Can we change the LMIA to another employer?? I would really appreciate any advice, thanks.

Is the work permit issued to your husband an exclusive work permit? And yours? In my point of view, it might be better if you find another employer that may offer you another LMIA. You can still land here in Canada, report to the employer and let the employer decide whether he gives him certain hours and still retain him as an employee or not. There may be options though when you arrive, and it will be easier to apply personally to other companies who may be willing to give another LMIA. If you have been given an OWP, you may still be able to use it if your husband uses the WP issued now.

No - you can't.
In order to work for a new employer, you need to obtain a new job offer and new LMIA - and then obtain a new work permit. You cannot work until you receive the new work permit.
