Would like to ask for your opinion on several matters concerning our citizenship application.
We applied in November 2017. AOR notice received on December 16. Application status went In Process January 25, 2018.
Today, we just received an email informing us of the test/ interview date which is scheduled on September 19, two days before we go on a one week vacation overseas.
My question now:
* Provided we pass the test and interview, can we just ask the IO to schedule us for oath after we come back from our vacation? I am seeing some applicants are being scheduled for oath the day after the interview.
* What happens after the interview/ oath? When do you have to surrender your PR card? Can you use the citizenship certificate for travel abroad?
* Last issue: We have two properties, one in Niagara and one in Toronto. We used the Toronto address ( primary address) for our citizenship application but the address we are using for our driver’s license, health card and vehicle registration is the one in Niagara ( rest house). I understand the IO asks for driver’s license for identification, I’d like to know if This will cause a problem for us, having a different address in our driver’s license and citizenship application.
Should we inform them now and submit a change of address before the interview or just explain to them during the interview that we live in and own both houses.
Hoping to hear others opinion and advise on this.
Regards and goodluck to everyone applying for the citizenship.
- The chances you get scheduled the next day are very slim... Just tell them during the interview about your vacation.
- You surrender the PR card on the day you become Canadian. You can only use your citizenship certificate to enter Canada by land from the US.
- No need to send a change of address for that I think. Explain that during the interview if you get asked Maybe have a proof for both addresses with you to be extra safe.
1. One week is pretty short. As Seym mentioned, the chances you will have any conflict with your potential oath ceremony is extremely slim
2. As Seym said
3. Be prepared to explain the discrepancy. As Syem mentioned, bring proof of your strong ties to both address.
Test and Oath are two separate things. You don't get your citizenship till your oath and your PR card is also taken away. I am not sure how you can return without a PR card . There must be a way since people have been waiting for months for oath

They take away your PR card at time of Interview and you're not eligible to apply for Canadian passport till your oath. There could potentially by couple of months between it.

I do not think you are correct, they would not take away the PR card before the day of the Oath. Until then you are a PR and you need your documentation.
