I am a PR holder but currently resides outside Canada. I am planning to give birth in Canada soon to avoid future sponsorship hassles. Any advice please on how to plan that? Unfortunately no health card yet. But I want a hospital with good care and I understand I would have to pay out of pocket . Please advice. Thank you
In order to qualify for free healthcare and get a health card you should be planning on meeting the residency requirement to receive healthcare. That ranges for 6-12 months in a province (differs between provinces) and making your permanent home in the province. If you don’t meet the residency requirements the province can ask you to pay back any costs. What province do you want to go to and how long are you planning on moving to Canada?
Would add that if you are close to your due date you may not be allowed to fly. Given covid is much more serious in pregnant women flying would certainly be a risk.
How far are you into your pregnancya? You need to quarantine for 14 days when entering Canada. It seems you are late in your pregnancy which will put those in hospital at risk if you enter during your quarantine period. You would also not be able to attend weekly medical appointments in person at the end of your pregnancy for 14 days which are quite important.
