Getting student visa with Canadian spouse

Hi,

I am a chinese citizen in the US, applying for a student visa to Canada.
My spouse is a Canadian citizen. Will this affect my application? Does CIC expect me to be sponsored for permanent residence?

It would be easier for you to have your spouse sponsor you for immigration. It only takes 6 months and you will have your PR card on the seventh month.

Currently CIC website indicates sponsorship time of 18 months for spousal sponsorship from New York.
Where is your 6 months estimate coming from?

it shows if spouse is out side canada and in US it will take 23 months
if spouse in canada it will take 14 months
unless i calculated wrong as per the link posted.

If applying from within Canada it takes 6 months for assessment or 8 months from start to finish.

I guess you are adding 6 months to 8 months = 14 months which is incorrect.

I have friends who applied from within canada and it did take an average of 8 months from start to finish.

Actually - that is correct. And stage 1 is taking 10 months right now, not 6. Your friends were very lucky to be done in just 8 months. This is not usual.

So if you are being sarcastic with your "lol" & "haha" do the math Mr. Smart. Per your post, we should now add 10 months and 8 months = 18 months.

And they are currently processing applications received on October 12th 2012 (applications filed 11 months ago). So it seems that they are 7 months ahead of time per your "lol" post which I doubt.

point was u gave wrong advice and failed to read the link u provided twice. My calculation was accurate till they updated the website however my adding the two, step 1 and step 2 was the right way to go about it. so 'Mr poor at reading' please read the link carefully ....
