HI Experts
Me and my girlfriend want to get married. We have been in relation for last 3 years she is 10 years older then me.My question is since she is 10 years older then me (35) will immigration raise any point on that.We both are in Canada i am international student .We have all the proves like pictures, phone bills, vacations together etc.
CIC may find it suspicious but if you can demonstrate that both of you are married and have a genuine relationship for a long time then it is likely that your application will be approved.
HI Experts
Me and my girlfriend want to get married. We have been in relation for last 3 years she is 10 years older then me.My question is since she is 10 years older then me (35) will immigration raise any point on that.We both are in Canada i am international student .We have all the proves like pictures, phone bills, vacations together etc.
They very well might raise questions on that depending on your culture and it's norms. Is it normal, in your home country, for you to date and/or marry someone that is 10 years older than you? If the answer is no, then you will want to be sure to include enough proof to overcome any questions that the VO might have in regards to the age difference. My husband and I have 22 years difference, he older than I. I am a US citizen, so it's not really uncommon to have one spouse older than the other, although ours is on the higher end, we just sent in enough proofs to prove a genuine relationship and no extra effort was required on our part for me to be approved as a PR.
In addition to submitting enough proof, you may also want to address it in your relationship story (if it is not normal in your home country). This way the officer reviewing your file can get some understanding of your mindset for going against what is the norm in your culture. Sometimes pictures, emails, etc alone may not tell the full story, which leaves things up to the interpretation of the officer. Congrats on your impending nuptials!
I had a short courtship(by western standards), but quite normal in my culture. We explained this aspect in detail, along with what was done to ensure we were making the right choice and included proof of it. Our GCMS notes show the officer is satisfied with the chronology of events. (loosely translated from French)
