hoping someone can help I am looking for engineering opportunities in Alberta as a Mechanical Engineer I have five years experience, I was wondering how have people similar to my situation getting an engineering company to hire you via an LMO, and have you encountered issues as you are not licensed ???
I am in the process of applying as a foreign licensee but cannot complete the application as I am still working for the company in the UK so it would be awkward
I am currently in the process of getting an LMO by my employer. I have applied for an applications (mechanical and controls) engineer position which is a regulated occupation in Ontario.
Same as your case, I have no Canadian license and even experience. But my employer is willing to hire me.
Based from my previous research, you can work in an engineering position if you are being supervised by a Professional Engineer. I am not sure if this is the same case in Alberta.
Yup, just found it in the Internet. I applied in their website. Did the initial interview via Skype. Then flew to Ontario to have a face to face interview.
We finalize the job offer a couple of weeks. They will apply for an LMO. They are willing to wait by the way.
It's more about checking your experience. They will ask situational questions related to the position. In my case, they asked if will design a precision equipment what needs to be considered. What will be the advantages/disadvantages of the designs I am thinking.
They even gave me a homework.
So if you really don't have the know-how then you will be dumbstruck in the interview.
My 2 cents, adapt to their standard format. Easier for them to read or scan your CV. They are looking for certain areas for information in your CV. That information might there on your CV but it might take them a while to notice it if your are using a different format.
I can't anymore recall the websites I've researched for my format -- It was 2 years ago.
Anyway, here's my resume format based from my research.

I probably got 30 email inquiries in the past 2 years when I sent out my resume to Canadian companies. All except one declined because I am from another country.
