Getting closer to visa expiry date

So my visa expiry date is 25 january 2018 the visa office requested our passports since 27 march and it had been with them for almost 5 months when we asked them for the reason they claimed they were awaiting security clearance results to issue COPR my question is how far can the processing go? can they for example issue COPR in december and we would then have only 1 month before visa expiry date ??? thnx in advance

If they don't return the passport before 31 August u should expect them to extend the visa expiry date by 1 year and
