I am confused about the process...I'm canadian, sponsoring my spouse who is outside of Canada, I'm in Canada now...

1. I'm trying to do it through https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/documents.do . Is this the right place?

2. Am I requesting information for myself or my spouse? (I think my spouse should be the correct answer)

3. Do I need a consent form? If so, do I put myself in section A and my spouse info in section B? Then myself again in section C? (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5744E.pdf)

4. I should go through the Access to Information Act instead of Privacy Act, correct?

Thanks!!

you need to go back to the home page for the link you requested. yes it seems correct.

you are requesting it on the applicant's behalf, and you want to choose "immigration file" NOT sponsorship file. That will only give you info on the sponsor.

Yes, if you are ordering on your wife's behalf, she needs to sign a consent form.

You want the privacy act, the one that prompts a payment for $5.

It says "Complete this form if you authorize the Access to Information and Privacy Division at CIC to release your personal info to someone other than your self".

"Section A - You must clearly write your name and date of birth"

"Section B - If you are also seeking the information of your spouse or common-law partner in your ATIP request, you must indicate their name and complete Section E"

"Section C - You must write your designated individual's contact info"

I am not quite sure whether it should be
a. my info in A, C, her info in B or
b. her info in A, my info in B, C

Your spouse

You need the consent. Your spouse's name goes in Section A. I have been putting my name (sponsor) in Sections B and C and it's been accepted. Others have left Section B blank and also had success.

Correct

There's a helpful video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_E_dq_uLVo&feature=youtu.be

How to order notes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_E_dq_uLVo&feature=youtu.be

Consent form: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/form-imm5744.asp

Order notes: https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/

Video is a bit outdated, e.g. I had no spot to type the file number when I just did it.

its been 46 days since we applied for the notes. its still not here!!! what could be the reason? first time we applied we got it in 30 days. in both the times the sponsor did not sign the consent form. we are going to apply again tomorrow but so confused thinking what went wrong with the second one...we wrote to ATIP but no response from them.

people who have recently gotten their notes have experienced delays. apparently there is a large amount of requests, so they are backed up. most likely you will receive some email from them asking for a 30 day extension. I think it's taking people more like 60 days to get the notes...

i hope its like what you said. If there was anything missing in our form or request they will let us know in few days after applying right? there is nothing like that

We got our recent notes exactly 30 days (by their accounting - 32 by mine) after requesting - for what it's worth - though in a previous request from Nov.2013 it took 60 days

Just checked my email from my Nov. 2013 request, and 5 days after filing the request I received a question from them asking for clarification regarding the identity and relationship of the 'client' - my response was to repeat all the previously form-submitted information, and I received the notes after a total of 60 days...

how old r the notes when you receive them ??

It seems to be hit and miss. I've ordered every 30 days for the past six months. Sometimes they are only a few days old, other times they are 3-4 weeks old.

Ours had information up to the day before they received the request
