I am a New Zealand citizen currently living in Ontario on an NZ working holiday (International Experience) visa. My (common-law) partner is a Canadian citizen - we've been together 5 years, she's dual NZ-Canadian. My visa runs out near the end of April. I am gainfully employed in a leading role at a technology company, and would very much like to stay in Canada to continue this work.

I sent my FSW (NOC 2174) application at the beginning of November - it was received November 6, according to the courier tracking number.

Since then, I have heard nothing. My credit card has not been charged, I have not received any form of rejection, and my original UCI number (from my current visa) doesn't bring up any results on the application status tracking page. I've called the help line and they supplied me with an email address for the Nova Scotia office - I emailed 3 weeks ago and have had no response.

What should I do about this?

I've received advice to apply under Family Sponsorship (as well as my currently-in-limbo FSW application), as I understand I can get an open work visa for the duration of the processing time for this. However, it can take up to 4 months for them to even open this and process it - by which stage I have to leave the country.

Should I apply for Family Sponsorship? If I do, and don't get a response before April - am I able to leave (say, a trip to the USA) and then return as a visitor for the remainder of the time before they respond?

Would a better option be simply to return to New Zealand then apply for Family Sponsorship via the Sydney office (I hear they're quite fast)?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
