I AM STARTING THIS THREAD FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE BOUND TO FLY TO CANADA IN JAN 2014.
LET'S NETWORK AND SHARE IDEAS ABOUT LANDING, CLIMATE, CITY OF LANDING, AIRPORT FORMLAITIES, CLOTHING, IMPORTANT FORMS TO FILL AND CARRY ALONG ETC.
I AM FLYING ON 21ST JAN 2014 TO CALGARY, ALBERTA.
MY FLIGHT IS AIR CANADA= MUMBAI-FRANKFURT-CALGARY
have you shortlisted any states to settle down?
i have heard that toronto (ontario), edmonton (alberta) and vancouver (british columbia) are 3 good cities for new immigrants to canada.
i have a family friend in toronto, but i am going to alberta.
you will find many immigrant assisting associations in every city in canada, who help newcomers with their settlement issues.
I am flying to calgary on 28 Dec and from there on I have booked a bus to Edmonton. The reason I didn't book the ticket straight EDmonton as the ticket are expensive. I booked the tickets from london to Calgary £490.

wow, you will be celebrating your new year in maple land. great.
i am also going to edmonton after landing in calgary. i have taken a connecting flight from calgary to edmonton and it cost $120 CAD.
i assume you are in the UK. its good that you will have to fly for only 9 hrs from uk to calgary, whereas i have to fly 19hrs from mumbai to calgary.
i also like your idea of bus travel from calgary to edmonton, which takes 2hrs. this way you will be able to enjoy all the beautiful scenery between calgary and edmonton.
keep us posted about your landing process.
hitesh.

guys,
i am yet to finalize an accommodation for myself. have any one of you started to look for an accommodation and finalized it?
i am flying on 20th jan. so by what date should i start looking and booking for a place to stay?
i am more keen to go for a basement suite for the initial 3 months after my landing, which are spacious, offer privacy and could provide warmth during the harsh winter of edmonton.
i have looked at quite a few basement suites on kijiji.com
