FLAGPOLING AT FORT ERIE BORDER

Hello,
My student visa for a postgraduate program was approved for starting in January 2025, but since I am already in Canada as a visitor, I will need to go to the land border to flagpole to get my study permit. I live in Toronto right now and want to know how to get to the Fort Erie border without a US visa. I'm thinking about using a car pool to Fort Erie and walking to the border, but I'm also thinking about taking a bus like the Greyhound, but since I dont have a US visa, wouldn't booking New York as my final destination be weird? Kindly provide guidance. Thanks a lot.
