I am an indian chartered accountant with more than 5 years of experience in financial reporting ( USGAAP AND IFRS). I work in MNC in india where we do financial reporting/ SEC reporting for US entities as per USGAAP AND IFRS.
I am planning to apply for PR in Canada however not sure about the job opportunities related to my field.
Please advise if i can get a job in Canada with the kind of working experience and qualification or i need to enrol may self for Canada chartered accountant course/ CPA
Certainly, you'll have to enroll for CPA licensure in Canada, as your current designation is not accepted here - you cannot avoid it if you want want grow in a financial/accounting career. There is a silver lining though... If your current designation was issued by a regulatory body that has an MoU with a similar body in a Canadian province, you simply need to do a reciprocal exam.
I advise you to read throughly on the accounting profession in Canada. It is important you're in the know in order to make an informed
decision.
That said, your experience may get you a similar role with a US MNC in Canada as I have seen some opportunities that were specific on such experience. You can look at job sites for an idea... One thing is for sure though, you'll need to obtain a designation issued by a Canadian body to grow in the field, generally.
I'd advise you do the following:
(1) Apply for PR - the process is not short so the earlier the better.
(2.) Determine the requirements to obtain a CPA designation in your preferred province. This will also guide you on whether to enroll in school or not. Note that you'll most likely be required to enroll in a program authorized by the provincial body, which may require you to be in Canada.
You can do all this while applying for jobs, but keep in mind, it is quite difficult getting a job offer if you're located outside Canada. It doesn't hurt to try though...
Here's an example of a job opening:
