Hello everyone - Here is my situation. I am a Canadian Citizen and am getting married to an American. We will be married in Canada. Would it be best for my boyfriend to come here on a visitor visa and then we get married and he can apply for his PR and work permit at this time? He is wanting to do an inland application and get work permit before he gets his PR. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Outland is probably still going to be a lot faster for an American. Remember it takes at least 4 months just to get the inland work permit. He can apply outland while visiting in Canada.
us outland applicants are still getting approved in 4-6 months (currently sept/oct 2016 applications are being approved). Inland is 12+ months for everyone (currently dec 2015 applications are getting approved, with many from before that still waiting). It doesn't make sense for a US citizen to apply inland just to get a work permit in 4 months when they can be completely approved as a PR and start working legally in about 6 months as an outland applicant. As the other poster suggested, a person can apply outland and be in canada as a visitor while their application processes. outland is still the better choice for US applicants.
