I was reviewing the documents today to mail out tomorrow and I noticed that my wife had put no address for her father or a birth date. He left when she was 4, and has not talked to him since.

Her Mom thinks she knows his birth year and that he lives in Calgary, but I don't want to put wrong information down and I don't want to put nothing.

Can I put text, something like, "Father Unknown"?

Put the supposed birth year and Calgary, then include a separate sheet explaining the situation.

I didn't have the address of my father nor the birthday.I just wrote a letter explaining .Didn't have any problems with it.

@taffy7 my spouse is in similar situation.her father address, job in unknown. no contact for atleast 15 years. will there be a prob in PR application.

You can write a short letter of explanation that his whereabouts are unknown and you do not have contact info. It should be okay but no-one can tell you for sure.

You might be better served, however, by at least undertaking a basic search to see if he can be found.

I can gather his details through distant relatives and old neighbours. but it was an abusive relationship to my wife's mother. she dont want to do anything with him. will including him in the application lead to any contact or needing any document from him?

There shouldn't be any reason for IRCC to contact, and if of concern to you, just attach a short letter of explanation (same as above, really). This will not be the first case of someone estranged from members of family (with cause), don't think any reason to think IRCC has much interest beyond identification.

It may not seem that critical but preferable to mistaken identity or seeming like not being open/credible. (This would also be more convincing about having partial information - like you know which city but without email/telephone etc).

Thanks a lot. Also I think my mother in law's legal status is 'married' as they are not separated through court .But they have not been in same house for more than 23 years. absolute no contact for 15 years. What option should I choose for her marital status in my spouse's additional family info form?

If separated is an option, then that. If not, married, and explain the situation.

Since they are not legally divorced etc I'd really suggest better to provide what information you can and explanation. There's no reason I can think of to not do so (assuming you believe, as I do, that IRCC is basically never going to contact)

Thankyou. We are from India. I just spoke to a divorce attorney . he said they are married legally as long as they file for divorce in court. Thankyou for the quick response really. Sometimes questions get lost in crowd.

Whatever the legal status in India, if separated is an option on the form you can put that.
