Hi

I am a refugee claimant. Can my wife who is in US came to land border and claim asylum. I heard she fits in family exception. Will there be any problem.

She has been there a few months. Yes she has claimed asylum but we will withdraw it. The new law is not even in place yet.

I ask because some people have been in the US for many years. Yes she qualifies for entry at a border.

You are aware of the intention to prevent previous US asylum seekers from applying for asylum. Unless you have also applied for asylum in the US your wife could always be added as a dependent on your PR application. We will have to see what happens with the potential law and any challenges of the law.

No, I did not apply for asylum in the US. I came here directly. Let's see how things move ahead.
