Here's my situation: My boyfriend and I are planning to get married here in Canada (civil ceremony for now) in December. My question is, what is the proper legal way for him to come to Canada for the ceremony? I know that he won't be allowed to stay and that I'll have to sponsor him as spouse after the marriage (and most likely outland, rather than inland). I would like to know which will be the easiest legally.

Where is your boyfriend from? If he's from the US (or any other visa exempt country), then he should have no issues coming to Canada on vacation. He's allowed to stay for 6 months with no problems.
If he's not from a visa exempt country, then he needs to apply for a visitor's visa.

oops, he's from a visa-exempt country (not the US though), so I know he does not need the visitor visa. However, my question is what should he say at port of entry as to why he is here? What does telling the truth do for him? And how long do we have to wait before I can put in a spousal sponsorship?

When my now husband crossed the border to come here 2 the states 4 our wedding he just simply said he was comming for a visit with me. Assuming he's visited you before, treat it as any normal visit.

I've always said I'm going to visit my boyfriend/husband and never had a problem though I've heard people say that they've done the same and had troubles. It all depends on the officer you get.
