Dear All

I am already married and have two children but we have been separated for last two years but not divorced because of children's future.

Now, I want to get married with my Canadian girl friend and she wants to sponsor me after marriage.

I need advice on whether she can sponsor me in this situation and if yes, how?

/if you want to marry your girlfriend you'll have to divorce your 1st wife first. Have you lived with your girlfriend for 12 months yet? There is the common law option but if you ever want to get married again you'll have to get divorced.

Can you clear something up for me. I’ve never really thought much about common law, as it doesn’t apply to me as a married man. However, I keep reading that in most provinces, common law only comes into effect after 3 years, sometimes 1 year if the couple has a child.

Also, can you still be legally married to one person, and be common law with another? I thought the existing marriage prevents someone creating another type of marriage status with someone else.
