Honourable Jason Kenney
We write this letter to share with you the critical political situation in Côte d'Ivoire. We understand the security issues that have led to the closure of the BVC in Abidjan as well as workers from the Embassy of Canada to leave the country. We permanent resident applicants and sponsors and sponsored reunification of the family class are unfortunately forced to undergo the displacement of our files to new destinations or Dakar and Sydney. However, we ask a real willingness on the part of the Canadian Government to act quickly so that we are not too adversely affected by these events. BVC Abidjan representing several countries of black Africa at the immigration office is one where time
processing applications are the longest. Since last year, delays are increasing. The torture is particularly difficult for families trying to reunite. The period from 8 months of waiting in 2009 to 16 months of waiting and even more in 2011. With the likely transfer of files, the wait could be stretched again. Nobody seems to really be able to inform us, nor the extra time we would have to spend away from our families, nor the place where we could go for even one bit of information on state of play of our folders. Medical visits that were paid dearly to be expired and will again if the waiting time is too elongated. It should really experience this process to understand how stressful and difficult it is to live everyday, and now especially for families whose members are still in Côte d'Ivoire. For some of us, it's been over a year that the records are ongoing and we expect our loved ones.
Please Mr. Minister, to understand the situation of husband-wife who can not consummate their marriage and having only one desire, to live in harmony with a normal couple, all those parents who wish to be present at each moment for the education of their children and each day have one wish to hug and say "I love you", not to mention all these ambitious young immigrant, whose heart is filled with hope, dream of integrating CANADA, this welcoming, diversity opens its doors to citizens of the world. All these files "in progress" can hang out too long on the shelves. Our life
that is pending should not hang around boxes.
We implore your help to make the status of BVC Abidjan a priority in your ministerial agenda. We ask the Ministry of Immigration Canada to take urgent measures to alleviate the wait time is the BVC Abidjan. We ask that a special budget is allotted to take the necessary measures to increase human resources so that all files "in progress" of the office of Black Africa follow a normal course and the waiting times are not extended further, but rather shortened. Because family reunification is a priority for Canada and it is essential for successful job performance.
Pending a positive response, please accept, Mr. Minister, to express our best regards
