extension on study permit to pursue another program

If I get an admit to one year Post graduate diploma program in Canada than I will get a study permit for one year. Now after the completion of this program if I want to join another one year post graduate diploma program and suppose I get into one than I have following questions:
1. Do I need to apply for another study permit/student visa or I need to request for an extension on the current one?
2. In case of the scenario I described above what are my chances of getting an extension/ new study permit for the second one year program?
I want to know if CIC issues extension on study permit if a student want to pursue an another course after the completion of the first one, like it would be in my case.
