I would rather not work, return to my country and come back with a normal work permit that will allow me to apply to a provincial nomination. Who cares about being able to work? The point of the PGWP is not just being able to work, that's preposterous, you might as well apply to an LMIA as a barista for free instead of spending 100k on a degree in Canada.
It's outrageous that they are counting the time they are taking to process applications towards the PGWP duration total. Under implied status you can't do almost anything other than keep working under the same employer. Can't even apply to provincial nomination programs.
It is not a new rule. It was never going to go beyond 1 year or 3 year since the issuance of the original PGWP. The applications are taking longer time nowadays. Delaying the passport renewal was a huge error.

The passport renewal was early. The passport renewal came in October, and the extension was submitted the same month. Temporary PGWP expired January 20, 2024. That was 4 months after the submission. Approval of the PGWP should be the easiest, as there are no major checks and the remarks/observations section says;
Temporary Resident Status maintained as per R183(6)
Post Graduate Work Permit
Issued Document until the Validity Date. Must renew for further extension
With that said, during the waiting period, absolutely nothing can be done, including renewing a driver's license, getting a health card, and most especially applying for provincial nomination or PR
@AndyT , @BTSDNA , @Xyz_789 hey guys any update in your application? I'm getting desperate. I don't have any update yet and today is my 259 day waiting.

The passport renewal window opens a year before the expiration. It opened in Jan 2023 in this case, could have kept it ready by Feb 2023 and applied in May 2023 upon receiving PGWP. I too delayed my passport renewal but I knew the consequences. I regret as my application process ate my 6 months leaving only two months hence there is no progress in my PR.

Can anyone answer this? I already have a PGWP until June 2025, but my passport will expire on the same date. So, Im applying for a PGWP extension through paper. On the questionnaire, they are asking for my immigration status in Canada. Should I select student or worker? Please reply.
