Hi there,
Apologies if this has been asked before. I am confused (again), and need to find out my options.
Background:
I am currently awaiting my PR to be processed.
I am on a visitor visa which expires on Dec 8th.
I applied to extend my visitors visa, almost 30 days ago.
I have been notified that the application has been received and the status is 'open'. That was 10 days ago that I heard anything.
My question is, if I do not hear from anyone before my current visitor visa expires will I have to leave the country anyway? The last thing I want to do is mess up my PR application by overstaying.
Thank you for reading!

I don't get what expires in Dec 8th, your TRV or your visitor status.
Are you able to explain the difference between a TRV and a visitor visa? I'm not sure what I have.

TRV is a sticker in your passport that you need to enter Canada if you are not from a VISA-exempt country.
There is no such thing as a visitor visa. Usually people refer to a TRV as a "visitor visa". A TRV cannot be extended, it has to be renewed. What can be extended is a visitor status.
So which on is expiring in Dec 8th?
Ok, thanks.
I did not receive a sticker in my passport when I last entered. I only got a stamp, valid for 6 months...this is what expires on Dec 8th.

You can't recieve a sticker in your passport on arrival, you have to submit an application to CIC.
Then what is expiring in Dec 8th is your "visitor status".
If you don't recieve an answer by Dec 8th you will be on implied status until CIC reaches a decision on your case. The decision can either be positive and you can stay longer or negative on which you will have to leave the country asap.

As you have submitted an application to extend your stay in canada and if your current visa duration expires (i.e 8th dec as you mentioned) before the outcome of your application your status will remain as implied status (i.e visitor status) till you get the decision from cic. You are allowed to stay and you do not have to leave the country till you get a decision on your application.
If your application gets approved you will get a visitor record document starting from 8th dec. As far as you are staying legally in canada your PR application should not be effected. (implied status is a legal status) so no worries.
Hope it helps
can you please tell me when have applied for extension?
i have a visitor status that expires on december 10th. I applied for extension on November 13th, But i havent heard anything from cic , vegreville yet...
Please tell me after how many days you got a reply from them..
i sent paper application..
