I posted a question about sending the family class sponsorship application before getting the marriage certificate -- I received a few replies, appreciated. I understand sending in the application without the marriage certificate will result in incomplete document and the application package most likely will be sent back.
Here comes my next question -- my wife entered Canada as a visitor. She is from Taiwan -- through the eTA visitor visa. She can legally stays for 6 months -- which is coming up in mid September. I don't anticipate we will have the marriage certificate before end of July (could be longer).
Should she apply for the visitor visa extension? Appreciate that. You guys are awesome.
When you submit the extension indicate that you are waiting for a marriage certificate to submit your spousal sponsorship. It is a good idea to extend visitor status until you get AOR anyways so you remain in status in case your application plus OWP is returned.
OWP is actually what gives people implied status not spousal sponsorship. If your application gets returned after your visitor status expires you then have to restore your status.
Extensions are much easier to get if you explain you are waiting for marriage certificate to apply for sponsorship.

Thanks!
What's the likelihood of the extension being rejected under this circumstances? I know it is impossible to tell but we just want to have a backup plan of our lives in case the visitor visa extension was rejected. Thanks.,
