I am going to be visiting my boyfriend in Canada so we can apply for a common law partnership. I had bought the ticket already yesterday and then was planning to extend my stay online in the future before my trip was over. I was rereading everything today and on the extend your stay page it reads "If you want to extend your stay as a visitor or change your type of permit, you should apply at least 30 days before your status expires." I had only bought the round trip ticket for two weeks, should I refund it and get a longer stay (like a month or two), or will I have a problem at all because I only bought the ticket for two weeks? I think I made a mistake, I can get a refund on my ticket within 24 hours, any help would be great.

You don't need to change your ticket. Standard status given on entry is 6 months, regardless of the return ticket date.

Also note that the 30 days is a recommendation, not a requirement. A person can apply for an extension up until their status actually expires.

Okay thank you, I already just refunded and bought a new ticket because I was worried, but thank you for the reassurance and the reply.
