Hi,
While I am waiting for AOR, I am planning to submit paper BoWP as my WP is expiring on 31st Jan. Now I wonder about the OHIP and whether I can show BoWP and extend the same or I need to wait till I find a job or get a PR?
Thanks!
See http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/temp_foreign.aspx for information about OHIP coverage for foreign workers.
When your BOWP arrives, take it, your old OHIP card, and the required identity documents to a Service Ontario office that handles health cards for foreign workers.
Being employed is necessary for temporary foreign workers to claim OHIP. You would have needed proof of employment when you applied for OHIP in the first place. If you don't have that job anymore, then you could try reapplying with other forms of documentation instead. I for one wasn't asked for proof of employment when I reapplied using my BOWP. However, this is probably not guaranteed to work.
You're OHIP can get extended when you show your BOWP. I received my BOWP hardcopy this month and I applied for a health card by just showing my BOWP and id card. I am also unemployed right now, so even if you don't have work right now, you are still eligible to get your health card extended. hope that helps...
Alright, but be prepared if they ask you for any of the identity documents anyway. I was asked for my 'proof of residency', for instance (hydro bill in my case).
Driver license is also ok as a proof of identity...
Thanks Rose and LPS!
I am leaving Canada by end of Jan while awaiting BOWP approval (as my current employer has booked my tickets to leave Canada), so hope I can come back when i have OWP and get OHIP extended.
