I am trying to help a friend who is sponsoring her husband outland. Apparently his birth certificate and their marriage certificate both have an expiry date of September 30. They are in the process of getting all their documentation together, completing forms, etc. They know that the Police Certificate can not be more than 3 months old, but what about the birth certificate and marriage certificate? I have never heard of these two documents having an 'expiry date' and even when we spoke to CIC, the agent seemed puzzled. So if the copies of the BC and MC are submitted to CIC after September 30, will CIC send back their application? Has anyone else ever encountered this situation?
I have never ever ever in my life heard of an expiration date on either. Perhaps that is date that whomever 'certified' these is due to reapply for their commission or something? I just don't see how either could possibly have an expiration date at all. I would send them. Worst case is they actually DO have an expiration date and CIC will request a new 'version' of them, however, I just don't see that as an issue.
Alurra 71--I am wondering exactly the same thing...could be expiry date of the notary's and/or translator's commission. I haven't actually seen a copy of either certificate, but once I do, I will be able to confirm that.
Keesio--The issuing country is Dominican Republic, supposedly all such documents are only valid for 3 months, although I haven't been able to confirm that anywhere.

OK. That might make a little more sense here, Yelsew. Perhaps that country, kind of like France, issues these documents, but for purposes of getting a passport/license or anything gov't related in Dominican they expire and must be renewed. However, for purposes of Canadian immigration, it would not be the same process.
***Edit: I checked, and the DR does have various forms of birth certificates for various purposes. The same is likely true for marriage certificates. Which one is required for immigration to Canada, I have no idea. You may need to ask in a new thread directly relating to dominican immigration and birth/marriage certificates.
